Going green

Our government recently awarded a $10 million ‘L-prize’ to the company that was able to provide an affordable low energy replacement for a 60 watt incandescent bulb. The winner? Phillips electronics. The bulb? An LED bulb that uses 10 watts and is expected to last 30x as long. The cost? $50.

Where in the world is $50 for ONE BULB considered affordable?

There are LED bulbs on the market for less… so how did this one get so expensive and win? Part of the requirements are that it be made in the USA. And manufacturing items in the USA is not cheap… that’s why they have the factories in China.
